August 2009 - Mimosa Elementary School PTA

Membership drive heating up this week with forms for sign up sent home with children on August 25th. Please stop by the PTA tables on Curriculum night, August 27th. We will also have the Spirit shirts on sale if you missed the chance to pick one up at Open House!
Additionally, Three for Me sign up forms were sent home with kids to allow parents to sign up for 3 hours of volunteering per school year. Together we can make this a year to remember!
Our first General Meeting of the PTA will be in September due to the new nature of Curriculum night. Look for an announcement soon on the time and place.

Lydia Kinkead has signed up to be the Fall Fundraising Committee Chair. Please wish her the best as we kick off the school year. You'll hear more from her later about the exciting fundraisers we have in store.

Following up the announcement of our new Fundraising chair, we would like to let you know about our first fall fundraiser: Original Works. We will be working with the Mimosa Art Department for each student to make an original work of art. This art is then transformed into a variety of keepsakes and memories that can be shared around the family. No wrapping paper or chocolates this year!!!! Look for more announcements to come!

Please sign up to help Mimosa fundraise using Georgia Natural Gas. For each new customer that signs up with them through the True Blue school website, they will give $40 to Mimosa Elementary PTA. Then for every month after that, they will give $5 a month. This adds up to $100 per new customer a year! And no door to door cookie sales involved! Please see the link on the Fundraising tab under Programs at the top of the page.

Our membership drive is still ongoing. Notices were sent home with the children regarding membership and volunteer opportunities with the PTA in the Mimosa Messenger.
Ana Kennedy has signed up to be the Chairperson of the Reflections Committee. Let's wish her the best with the 2009-2010 theme of "Beauty Is...".

Budgets! We have been working hard on establishing our budget and programs for the 2009-2010 school year. We will present this during the first general PTA meeting on August 27th during Curriculum Night.

First week of school! Kids are back and we are gearing up with the programs and fundraising events that will help make this year a great one.
Information gathered from the Open House was used to send invitations to the new communications tool, Just Between Friends. Please validate your email address from the email from treasurer@mimosaespta.org if you have received one.

The new PTA website was started to communicate more information more readily to our community of parents, teachers and other invested community members who benefit when our kids benefit.
Open House on August 6th was busy and bustling with parents and kids meeting their teachers for this school year. The PTA had two tables with information and sign up forms for both membership and volunteering opportunities. We have 61 Members and over 20 volunteers signed up for Three for Me from Open House! A great start!
We were also able to provide Spirit Shirts before school started for $10 a shirt. These will continue to be available if you were not able to make it by the table that day.
